Frequently Asked Questions

How does the pay calculator work?

Enter any single figure — yearly, quarterly, monthly, fortnightly, or weekly, as gross, net, or tax — and press Calculate. The calculator works out the annual equivalent from that one figure, then converts it back into every other period and type using current Australian income tax, Medicare Levy, and (if selected) HECS-HELP rules.

What's the difference between Base Salary and Total Package (TRP)?

Base Salary treats superannuation as an amount paid on top of the gross figure you enter — the standard arrangement for most award and enterprise agreement roles. Total Package (TRP) treats the entered gross figure as inclusive of super, common in some corporate and executive contracts, so the taxable gross is reduced to back out the super component.

Why do FY 2025–26 and FY 2026–27 give different results?

The second income tax bracket changes between the two years. Select the financial year that matches the pay period you are calculating, and use the FY26 comparison table to see how the same gross figure plays out under the other year's rates.

Does it include HECS-HELP repayments?

Yes. Toggling on HECS-HELP debt applies the compulsory repayment thresholds and rates on top of income tax and Medicare Levy for the calculated figures.

Can I calculate super on top of a package figure?

Yes. Turn on "Include Superannuation" to add a super column at 12% to the results table, then choose Base Salary or Total Package depending on how the employer has structured the offer.

Is this accurate for casual loading or salary packaging?

This calculator handles standard PAYG income tax conversions between pay periods. It does not model casual loading percentages, salary sacrifice arrangements, or novated leases — those need to be applied to the gross figure before it is entered.

Is this financial or tax advice?

No. Figures are estimates for education and quick conversion purposes only. Confirm exact take-home pay with a registered tax agent, payroll provider, or the ATO.
